A baker claimed that the future of his company was in jeopardy because energy costs had risen by more than 700%.
In Felixstowe, Suffolk, Andy Cole of The Bakery reported that his monthly expenses had increased from £800 to $6,500.
He claimed that if changes to his bills were not made, he would have to close the bakery and fire eight employees due to a contract he had with Smartest Energy.
The BBC has gotten in touch with Smartest Energy for comment.
Mr. Cole, who has owned the Hamilton Road bakery for 12 years, claimed that he can be charged up to 80p per unit.
He claimed that up until a few years ago, he made monthly payments of £800, but his most recent direct debit was for £6,500.
According to Mr. Cole, he was informed that he would have to pay his bill for three years if he wanted to end the contract.
He declared, "The electricity companies are charging way too much and they need to bring down their prices.
Felixstowe is a wonderful town; there are butchers, greengrocers, and fantastic fishmongers here. To support these small communities and the High Street, the government and big businesses need to step up. ".
In order to avoid having to close, he said, the tariff needed to be changed "within the next few days.".
It should not be happening, he continued, and it is very stressful.
"I think there are many businesses going through the same thing, not just ours.
