Foxconn, an Apple supplier, is stepping up efforts to hire more workers for the largest iPhone factory in the world in anticipation of the release of a new model.
Foxconn claims that new hires at its Zhengzhou, China, facility will be eligible for bonuses worth up to 3,000 yuan ($424; £343) if they stick with the position for at least 90 days.
It states that current employees will also be eligible for an award if they successfully refer a friend or family member.
September is the anticipated release date for the iPhone 15.
A post on the well-known Chinese messaging app WeChat that the BBC saw stated that Foxconn employees who recommend a new hire will now get 500 yuan if the person stays at the company for a month.
It is the newest step taken by the Taiwan-based company to enhance benefits for the workers at the enormous facility known as iPhone City.
When contacted by the BBC, a spokesperson for Foxconn declined to comment.
Numerous employees at the Zhengzhou plant protested last year over Covid restrictions and claims of unpaid wages.
A fence outside the Foxconn factory was also seen being jumped in videos that were posted online in October after the facility had been closed due to a coronavirus outbreak.
After Chinese authorities closed down a Zhengzhou neighborhood where iPhone City is situated, Apple issued a warning in November that shipments of the iPhone 14 would be delayed.
Next, the iPhone manufacturer hired new personnel by promising them larger bonuses.
An employee, however, claimed to the BBC that their contracts had been altered and that they "could not get the subsidy promised," adding that they had been quarantined without food.
In response, Foxconn stated that "a technical error occurred during the onboarding process" and that new hires were paid "the same as agreed (in the) official recruitment posters.".
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are among the products made by Apple at the Zhengzhou facility, which has over 200,000 workers.
