According to reports, Elon Musk's second-in-command for trust and safety at Twitter has resigned.
In November 2022, a month after Elon Musk took control of the business, Ella Irwin filled Yoel Roth's vacant position.
The chief of trust and safety is in charge of content moderation, a subject that has gained attention in the wake of Elon Musk's takeover.
The BBC has requested comments from Ms. Irwin and Twitter.
She stated that she has resigned to the Wall Street Journal and Reuters. Her resignation has no apparent explanation.
It does so, though, a day after Mr. Musk publicly criticized a Twitter content moderation choice.
He described it as "a mistake by many people at Twitter" to decide to restrict the visibility of a video due to claims of gender misrepresentation.
Whether or not you agree with using someone's preferred pronouns, failing to do so is at the very least impolite and undoubtedly does not violate any laws, he wrote.
It occurs one week after the social media site voluntarily withdrew from the EU's voluntary code to combat misinformation.
Linda Yaccarino, the former head of advertising at NBCUniversal, was named the new CEO of Twitter by Elon Musk last month. Her job has not yet begun for her.
In-depth studies have shown that hate speech has increased during Elon Musk's leadership, and a London-based campaign group, the Center for Countering Digital Hate, found that slurs significantly rose after the takeover.
And in December 2022, Twitter disbanded the volunteer group that provided it with advice on hate speech, child abuse, and self-harm.
However, there have been steps taken to limit the accuracy of content. Mr. Musk announced the platform's Community Notes feature would now include images.
Using the crowdsourced fact-checking system known as Community Notes, Twitter users can add context to tweets by commenting on them and frequently labeling them as false or misleading.
Future plans for the platform call for adding video to this feature.
