Disney announced a reorganization of its release schedule, so fans will need to wait a little longer for some of the biggest blockbusters.
According to US media, the list includes several of the highly anticipated sequels to the Marvel, Star Wars, and Avatar films.
Producer of the Avatar film Jon Landau stated on Twitter that the next films would take longer to complete.
Disney hasn't provided an explanation for the delays.
The move coincides with the ongoing Hollywood writers' strike, which some believe is leading to production halts that might affect release dates.
In spite of what some detractors may say, movies like this require scripts, so Gizmodo, a media website, reports that production must be delayed because writers aren't currently working on them.
The release of the Avatar movies, a science-fiction series set on the fictitious moon of Pandora, is the most important event on the calendar, which was announced on Tuesday. On December 19, 2025, Avatar 3 will now be released, a year later. The release dates for Avatar 4 and 5 are respectively December 21, 2029, and December 20, 2031.
The first "Avatar" film's director, James Cameron, has indicated he might not helm the fourth and fifth installments, according to the Associated Press. Cameron, who is currently 68, will be 77 by December 2031.
The producer of the Avatar series, Jon Landau, stated on Twitter that "each Avatar movie is an exciting but epic undertaking that takes time to bring to the quality level we as filmmakers strive for and audiences have come to expect.".
The Star Wars movies represent the other significant push on the calendar. The series now has two movies scheduled for 2026; one was moved from December 2025 to May 2026, and another was added for December 2026. A Star Wars movie hasn't been released by the studio since 2019.
The majority of Marvel TV shows will also be rearranged, most notably Avengers: Kang Dynasty, which will air in May 2026 instead of May 2025.
The majority of the Marvel movies are now released a few months later, among other changes. Instead of May 2024, "Captain America: Brave New World" will debut in July 2024, followed by "Thunderbolts" in December 2024, "Blade" in February 2025, and "Fantastic Four" in May 2025.
