Since the inaugural Download Festival took place in 2004, a lot has changed.
The biggest rock and metal festival in the UK has typically featured a rotating cast of headliners, but not this year.
Both British bands will perform as the main stage closers on Friday for the first time at Donington, with Bring Me the Horizon and Architects.
Sam Carter, the frontman for the Architects, tells BBC Newsbeat that it will be a beautiful moment for the UK scene.
When I consider where both of our bands have come from and where we are now, the transformation is absolutely staggering. ".
Architects from Brighton and Bring Me the Horizon from Sheffield have gradually climbed the rock ladder, gaining new followers in the process.
Neither had ever opened Download, which usually chooses "legacy acts"—older bands thought to be ticket-sellers—as its headliners.
However, some fans have long advocated for giving new artists a chance.
Friends Jordan, 24, Alistair, 25, and Chloe said they came to the Download this year to see both UK acts.
Jordan says, "It's long overdue.".
Both bands have "worked hard" to gain new fans, says Chloe, adding that they "deserve it.".
Sam acknowledges that this gives the band the impression that they have something to prove, but they are ready to put on "one hell of a show.".
We need to "go out there and really prove ourselves," he continues, "and really show you how much we care about what we do as a band and how much we care about our fans. ".
Sam, however, pushes back against the idea of calling more seasoned bands "legacy acts" and asserts that Architects aren't taking anything for granted.
You can understand why they are the headliners, he says.
"They're huge. Huge describes them. But now we have a chance to demonstrate that we might be some of those bands that take their place when they're no longer around. ".
Metallica, a "ginormous" metal band and fellow Download headlining act, has been giving Architects a lot of time.
Tom describes the experience as "staggering" as they have been supporting the metal legends in stadiums across Europe.
not necessarily for the reasons you might assume.
He recalls that on the first day, "they brought us flowers, a cake, and a card and welcomed us to the tour.".
And after the performances, they invite us out to dinner and give us the run of the stage. Simply put, they have been amazing to us.
"You don't need to be that nice to be in that band, but they are, and it's really, really inspiring. ".
For the members of the Architects, whose guitarist and songwriter Tom Searle passed away from cancer in 2016 at the age of just 28, the Download concert will hold a special place in their hearts.
Sam claims that the reunion is "an important weekend" because he was there when the band debuted at Download ten years ago. .
There are many ups and downs in life, he claims.
And just because we're in a position where we can perform on stage and have a good time, that doesn't mean we're not still thinking about Tom.
We're going up there and doing this for Tom; we're following Tom's wishes.
"This life is a one-shot deal, and it can pass by very, very quickly.
"I hope those who are facing challenging circumstances will realize that you can overcome them. ".
