In Secret Invasion, a villain from Marvel uses a Butetown accent

Gravik is played by Kingsley Ben-Adir in the newest episode of Secret Invasion

The most recent Marvel movie stars Olivia Colman and Samuel L. Jackson are among the cast, along with a Cardiff accent.

In developing the character of Gravik for Secret Invasion, Kingsley Ben-Adir told Buzzfeed that he was inspired by Butetown in Cardiff.

The actor claimed that he also became aware of Betty Campbell, the first black head teacher in Wales.

I just thought that might be a nice way in," Ben-Adir said, referring to the mixed-race community in Butetown.

I began talking to locals to develop the character because the area has a sizable Caribbean community and a military past. ".

London-born Ben-Adir claimed that during his research, Betty Campbell was the subject of significant learning.

"She was the nation's first black head teacher. I spent a lot of time listening to a wonderful podcast about her that was broadcast on the BBC. I only have a basic understanding of Cardiff and Butetown, though. ".

Ben-Adir has previously portrayed Barack Obama and Malcolm X in movies.

He will soon appear in Greta Gerwig's beloved Barbie movie and play Bob Marley himself in a brand-new biopic.

Wales has previously made an appearance in the Marvel Universe.

The 2018 superhero movie Black Panther featured the Welsh flag in a scene at the UN.
