Kesha, a popular singer, and Dr. Luke, a music producer, have agreed to end their protracted legal dispute over defamation.
The two said they "agreed to a resolution" of the case in a statement that was shared by them both on Instagram.
Dr Luke, also known as Lukasz Gottwald, sued Kesha in 2014, alleging that she had made up accusations of rape against him in order to avoid signing a recording contract.
With the Dr. Luke-produced singles Tik Tok and We R Who We R., Kesha, real name Kesha Rose Sebert, became well-known.
She sued him in 2014, requesting the termination of their agreement because, according to her attorneys, he had "abused [Kesha] sexually, physically, verbally, and emotionally to the point [where] [she] nearly lost her life.".
In two of the alleged abuse incidents, Kesha alleged that Gottwald had drugged and raped her.
The trial was scheduled to start on July 19. A New York appeals court recently declared Dr. Luke to be a public figure, raising the standard of proof for the producer to establish that he had been the victim of libel. Days later, the parties reached an out-of-court settlement.
They have not made public the details of their agreement.
Each of them was quoted in their Instagram statement, which read: "Agreed to issue and post a joint statement regarding that resolution.".
In her statement, Kesha said: "As I have always said, I cannot recount everything that happened. Only God knows what happened that night.
"I am eager to start a new chapter of my life and close the door on this one. I wish everyone involved nothing but peace. ".
Dr. Luke, a hit-making producer for Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne, and Flo Rida, expressed his gratitude for being able to "put this difficult matter behind me and move on with my life.".
While I appreciate Kesha once more admitting that she is unable to recall what occurred on that night in 2005, I am positive that nothing occurred, he continued.
"I never gave her drugs or beat her up, and I would never do that to anyone. I have fought hard for nearly ten years to clear my name for the sake of my family," he continued.
I wish Kesha well, he said as he concluded.
