According to South African police, the evidence they have so far leads them to believe that popular rapper AKA was killed in an assassination.
Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the head of the KwaZulu-Natal police, claimed that AKA was shot in the side of the head while the shooter was close to him.
Then, he continued, a second shooter opened fire in an effort to prevent bystanders from retaliating to the "hit".
Celebrity chef Tibz Motsoane, a friend of AKA, was killed by one of these rounds.
In the coastal city of Durban, a shooting happened on Friday night in front of a restaurant.
His father has urged people to refrain from speculating on social media as police work to piece together the full story of what happened to AKA, whose real name was Kiernan Forbes.
The family is concentrating on giving their son "a dignified send-off," according to Tony Forbes, who has thanked the many well-wishers whose support is "making it easier to cope.".
Additionally, he paid homage to Motsoane, describing him as "like a brother" to AKA.
There haven't been any arrests yet.
However, police claim to know the identities of the "two shooters" and claim to be still verifying the identities of everyone who was present at the scene in Durban that evening.
According to Gen. Mkhwanazi, investigators are currently using the suspects' data to piece together their communications and movements leading up to the murders.
According to him, "We know that the aim was to first kill AKA, and the second suspect could have killed any other [person] because they fired a few shots, so anybody who was on the way could have been hit.".
According to his father, AKA will be buried on Saturday and a memorial service will be open to the public on Friday at the Sandton convention center in Johannesburg.
He began his musical career as a member of the rap group Entity before going solo. For his music, he won several awards in South Africa.
With several nominations for a Black Entertainment Television (BET) Award in the US and an MTV Europe Music Award, he was also honored on a global scale.
The 35-year-old shared information about his upcoming album, Mass Country, which is due out later this month, on social media just hours before he passed away.
