People have traveled great distances to participate in an attempt by a BBC radio station to crochet its way into history by breaking a world record.
A Guinness World Record for the most crocheters working at once is being challenged by BBC Radio Derby, and they are in need of volunteers.
In order to beat the previous record, the station needs 605 people.
It has gained backing from nations as far away as the US.
The Singleton Crafters of New South Wales, Australia, who accomplished their feat on April 30, 2017, currently hold the record.
The mass crochet is beginning at the Derby Arena at 15:00 GMT, and Adrienne Pollich said she had traveled from New York to participate.
I'm so excited, she exclaimed. It will be my first time visiting the UK, and I believe it is for a worthwhile cause.
"I have been an avid crocheter for the majority of my life. ".
From Sunderland, another woman is arriving.
Rachel Knight claimed that a friend who lives in Ripley, Derbyshire, had "roped" her in.
She stated, "I only started crocheting about five years ago. "I learned to crochet because I wanted to make a small coat for a small dog that was losing hair and wasn't feeling well. ".
In an appeal, listeners were asked to knit or crochet a blanket for those in need. The station is attempting the record to mark the conclusion of the appeal.
More than 1,800 blankets have already been distributed throughout Derbyshire and East Staffordshire as part of the appeal, which is open until the end of February.
Executive producer at the station Rachael Gilchrist stated: "The response from our listeners to the Make a Blanket appeal was phenomenal and caught us all off guard.
The recipients of these blankets have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the hundreds of people who donated their time and talents to make them.
"Many have said it feels like getting a hug," they said.
"We were looking for a way to commemorate the conclusion of the appeal, and inviting people to this attempt to break the world record seemed like a wonderful way to say thank you to everyone who participated. ".
If more than 605 people crochet at once for 15 minutes, the previous record will be broken.
An adjudicator for Guinness World Records, Jack Brockbank, will be present.
He declared: "We have an impartial crochet expert who will keep an eye on the crowd, and stewards will be keeping an eye on the crocheters.
"Everyone must participate fully and to the best of their abilities in order to maintain the spirit of the record.
If successful, I'll be handing out a brand-new Guinness World Records certificate that evening. ".
