Tom Holland has declared that in order to care for his mental health, he will take a year off from acting.
The Crowded Room, the English Spider-Man actor's most recent endeavor, was "tough" for him, and it left him feeling broken.
The Apple TV+ thriller series' star and producer is 27-year-old Holland.
In it, he portrays a character that is loosely based on Billy Milligan, also known as "the campus rapist," a US man who asserted to have 24 different personalities.
Because of his dissociative identity disorder, Milligan was the first person to be found not guilty of his crimes due to insanity, and instead of going to jail, he spent ten years in psychiatric hospitals.
In an interview with Extra TV on Wednesday, Holland stated that the role had him "exploring certain emotions that I have definitely never experienced before," and that the off-camera responsibilities had added an "extra level of pressure.".
He said, "I'm no stranger to hard work. "I've always believed that working hard is a sign of good work. But I was broken by the show.
"There was a time when I needed a break and I took off to Mexico for a week, where I relaxed on the beach.
"Due to how challenging this show was, I'll be taking a year off. I can't wait to see the results. I think our efforts weren't in vain. ".
Undoubtedly, it was a difficult time, he continued.
The Bafta-winning actor confessed last month that he had "a bit of a meltdown" because he couldn't turn the character off and wanted to shake his head at him just to get rid of him.
He admitted, "I was seeing myself in him, but in my personal life. I remember having a little bit of a breakdown at home and thinking, like, 'I'm going to shave my head. I've got to shave my head to get rid of this character. '.
It was unlike anything I've ever experienced before. "And, obviously, we were in the middle of shooting, so I decided not to. ".
The actor, who was born in London, has spoken out on similar issues before. He made the same announcement last year that he was cutting back on social media because he felt it could be "detrimental" to his mental health.
In order to be able to "go and do other things," he had previously stated that he was thinking about completely quitting acting, which he had started doing at the age of 11.
