Given that Glastonbury Festival temperatures could reach 27C, safety precautions have been advised.
Higher temperatures are more likely later in the week according to the current forecast for the 21–25th of June.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has provided tips for staying safe in the heat.
Additionally, it has urged people to be aware of other risks, such as measles and STDs.
The UKHSA advised avoiding excessive alcohol consumption, carrying a re-fillable water bottle, applying sunscreen, donning a hat, and drinking water throughout the day.
The measles is spreading throughout the nation, and festivals are the ideal setting for it to do so, according to Dr. Bayad Nozad, Consultant in Health Protection at UKHSA South West.
Before attending the festival, please get in touch with your doctor to see if you can schedule an appointment if you have not received the full course of measles, mumps, and rubella vaccinations. ".
In addition, there has been a significant rise in the number of STI cases, particularly among young people. STIs can significantly affect both your and the health of any sexual partners, making them more than just a minor inconvenience.
"Condoms are the best defense, but if you didn't use one the last time you had sex with a new or casual partner, get tested to find out if you might have an infection and to stop spreading it to others. ".
The UKHSA advised attendees to keep an eye out for any symptoms of heat-related illness in themselves, their friends, and other attendees at the festival site:.
- a head pain.
- confusion and feeling queasy.
- nausea and loss of appetite.
- sweating excessively and having pale, clammy skin.
- cramps in the stomach, legs, and arms.
- rapid breathing or heartbeat.
- a 38°C or higher maximum temperature.
- extremely thirsty.
It has also been made clear that reservations are required for festival-goers arriving by train.
39 trains from London Paddington will be run by Great Western Railway (GWR), offering 26,000 seats from Wednesday to Friday.
Given the anticipated high demand for train services, GWR is requiring reservations from every passenger taking the route.
