What does the song "Padam Padam" mean? is Kylie Minogue's first top 10 hit since 2010

The catchy dance anthem Padam Padam is Kylie Minogue's biggest solo hit in more than a decade.

Since 2010's All The Lovers reached its highest peak at number three, this is the star's first song to enter the UK top 10.

Kylie joins Cher, Lulu, and Diana Ross as the only four female artists to make it to the UK's top 10 in five different decades.

The song's success, which has become extremely popular on TikTok, "really caught us all by surprise," the singer claimed.

On the Radio 2 Breakfast Show earlier this week, she exclaimed, "I can't even, I can't even, full stop!". We all enjoyed it as a team, but I have no idea how well it has done. ".

Since being a featured artist on Taio Cruz's 2011 single Higher, she hasn't achieved any top 10 status.

Additionally popular abroad are Ireland, the Netherlands, Argentina, Chile, Germany, El Salvador, New Zealand, and Australia—Kylie's native land.

Its title resembles the sound of a racing heart and is said to be influenced by the Edith Piaf song of the same name.

It's onomatopoeic, said Kylie. "Like a heartbeat, d-dum, d-dum.".

The word "Padam" has, however, been adopted by fans since its release last month, particularly during Pride month, to signify a variety of things, from hello and goodbye to a vocal seal of approval.

What do you make of her attire, Padam? Padam, how do you like your coffee? Padam Padam, is it hot outside?

On Instagram, one supporter elucidated, "It means being gay and having a great time.".

"Personality is hilarious. According to Kylie, it has evolved into a noun, verb, and adjective.

"Friends are always saying 'Padam!' as they leave, as if they've been transformed into minions or something. I am having a blast watching what people are doing as it has taken on a life of its own. ".

Louis Staples claimed in an article for Harper's Bazaar that the phrase is consistent with a history of "queer people using art as part of a coded language that only we - the initiated - understand.".

"A historical example would be San Francisco's Castro District in the 1970s, during the time of Harvey Milk, when there was an entire sartorial code for gay men, according to which not only different-colored handkerchiefs, but also commonplace clothing such as Converse and plaid shirts all meant different things," he noted.

The gay slang that many of us use to express ourselves has apparently expanded to include Padam Padam. ".

The Sun reports that supporters are even petitioning the Oxford English Dictionary to include the word in its upcoming edition.

Kylie said to Capital Radio, "That's a wild thought. "Because whatever you want it to mean, that's what it means,". ".

The second track to be released from the artist's upcoming album Tension is titled Padam Padam and is scheduled for release in September.

After the disco vibes of her previous album and the country-pop songs of 2018's Golden, she claimed that the 2003 single Slow was the musical touchstone for her new material.

By chance, Kylie's final UK number one single was that song.

The singer, however, might soon make a comeback to the top five as Padam Padam streams grow week over week.

Additionally, Sam Fender and Harry Styles both benefit from playing significant UK shows this week.

The singles by Fender and Styles, Seventeen Going Under and Late Night Talking, respectively, are at positions 29 and 30 and 31 in the Top 40.
