As part of a plan to cut down on hospital patients, there will be twice as many virtual ward beds in Shropshire.
There are currently over 100 patients in the county receiving care through home visits or an online "ward round.".
Hospital beds can be freed up by performing blood tests, prescribing medication, or giving patients fluids through an intravenous drip.
Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust must have 249 virtual ward beds by December 2023, according to chief executive Patricia Davies, so the number of beds must increase.
Mrs. Davies stated during a board meeting that the wards were a joint effort with the acute trust, Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
She added that there were some instances where sending patients home earlier allowed their medical care to continue.
The Dudley Group Foundation Trust reported in September that 100 kids at Russells Hall Hospital who participated in a similar program were able to leave the hospital early.
The trust referred to the program as "ground-breaking" and instructed parents on how to take routine observations that were automatically downloaded at the hospital.
During her discussion of the Shropshire program, Ms. Davies noted that some of the patients had "stepped up" from community care while others had "stepped down" from hospital care.
In Shropshire, Telford, and Wrekin, the trust was now considering "industrializing the process of the virtual ward," she said.
