Cancer takes the life of "inspirational" teen Maggie Adcock

Maggie Adcock

A teen who raised money for experimental therapy to combat an aggressive form of cancer passed away a year after being given the diagnosis.

Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, also known as Maggie's disease, was identified in May 2022.

After the cancer spread to her brain in January, she underwent chemotherapy but was informed that she only had weeks or months to live.

On Monday in a hospice, she passed away quietly with her loved ones by her side.

Maggie's teachers and friends threw her a spring ball with only a couple of weeks to prepare after learning that her cancer was terminal.

A party was also planned as a surprise for the adolescent's 18th birthday in May. She was from Hilton in Derbyshire.

Maggie's mother thanked everyone for organizing the fundraising effort in a recent update to the campaign.

Lyn Adcock wrote, "It was magical.". "We are grateful that you have given our daughter such love and joy. ".

Maggie with her parents
Maggie enjoyed traveling and pursued geography at the A-level in the hopes of attending college.

Maggie loved to travel, according to her parents, and had hoped to one day be able to do so as part of her career.

Maggie was able to travel to Paris and Italy before she passed away thanks in part to the fundraising page, which brought in over £100,000.

Thank you for giving Maggie the chance to travel the world, Maggie's mother said in the letter.

She had scheduled the excursions around her chemotherapy sessions.

Last month, her mother wrote: "We know it's a long road, but we remain strong and determined.".

It has been very difficult to follow the recent chemotherapy regimen for the past four months. Because of the side effects, Maggie was frequently admitted to the hospital. Observing her struggle was very difficult. ".

In an assembly on Tuesday, Maggie's school informed the students of her passing, and support is being provided to them through drop-in clinics.

Parents received an email stating: "Maggie was a model student who, despite receiving a devastating diagnosis last year, remained upbeat and determined to make the most of every day.
