Cornwall residents can now schedule appointments with NHS dentists thanks to a mobile dental clinic.
People who cannot access a NHS practice can receive care from the nonprofit organization Dentaid.
Following a council decision to pay for it with a community fund, the mobile unit will be in St. Columb Minor on Wednesday and Newquay on Thursday.
"Working to improve access to NHS dental care," the Department of Health and Social Care stated.
With volunteer dental professionals providing dental care and oral health advice, Dentaid has seven mobile dental units that travel the nation stopping at soup kitchens, hostels, and community centers.
Mandy Francis said she was "quite excited" to receive treatment in St. Columb Minor after missing seven years of NHS dental appointments.
I've looked all over Cornwall for an NHS dentist, but it's been impossible to find one," she said.
"This really is a blessing because I was offered a job in Devon, but it's too far away for me to travel.". ".
There are only 10 pre-scheduled appointments per day, but organizers hope the unit will return the following year.
The Department of Health and Social Care declared in a statement that it was "working to improve access to NHS dental care and have already increased the funding practices receive for high needs patients to encourage dentists to provide more NHS treatments."
