Generator problems close Telford hospital's women and children unit

Princess Royal Hospital

A hospital's women and children's unit is currently not accepting new patients due to issues with the hospital's generator.

According to the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, maternity patients, children, and infants are not being admitted to Princess Royal Hospital in Telford while specialized parts are sought for the malfunctioning machine.

To nearby hospitals, patients are being transferred.

The emergency room is still open, along with other services.

The trust advises patients to call the hospital's triage team rather than another hospital so they can be directed to the best facility for their requirements.

We deeply regret the effect this is having on women and their families, and we are appreciative of their ongoing support, said a spokesperson.

"Adequate care and support" is still being provided to current inpatients, they added.

Although the trust was unable to specify a specific time for when services would be fully restored, it stated that it anticipated this to happen "within the next few days."
