After being recognized in the King's first birthday honours list and given a British Empire Medal (BEM), a centenarian expressed her gratitude and flattery, saying she felt "very honoured and flattered.".
During the Covid pandemic, Joan Willet helped the British Heart Foundation (BHF) raise £60,000.
Ms. Willett raised the funds by completing a 17-mile walking challenge in front of her Hastings nursing facility.
She is this year's oldest recipient, clocking in at 106.
Former teacher Ms. Willett, who accepted her challenge at age 103, has endured two heart attacks.
Captain Sir Tom Moore, who ran around his garden for charity to raise £39 million, served as an inspiration to her.
"I literally couldn't believe it when I received the letter from the Cabinet Office informing me that I was being recommended to King Charles for this honor," Ms. Willett said.
"I could never have predicted that it would happen to me, and it was such a wonderful surprise. ".
She continued, "Without the support and motivation of my friends and every single wonderful staff member here at my care home, they are all fantastic, I couldn't have started on my fundraising challenge for the BHF. ".
Having received the honor, Dr. Charmaine Griffiths, CEO of the BHF, said everyone at the organization was "immensely proud" and "thrilled.".
"Joan is just such a remarkable individual, and her amazing fundraising for the BHF during the pandemic touched all of our hearts. It's so wonderful that she was honored in the King's birthday list. ".
In another part of Sussex, Prof. Debra Humphris, the vice chancellor of the University of Brighton, has been given the CBE for services to the NHS and higher education.
Prof. Ivor Gaber, who is also affiliated with the University of Sussex, has been given the OBE for his contributions to media freedom around the world.
Victoria Golding, a former trustee and 40-year volunteer for Kent Wildlife Trust, was awarded a BEM for her contributions to education, charity, and animal welfare in Kent.
For his contributions to politics and public service, Damian Collins, the MP for Folkestone and Hythe, was also awarded an OBE.
The Tunbridge Wells-based presenter Davina McCall received an MBE for her contributions to broadcasting.
Gavin McKinnon, Chief Officer of the Kent Special Constabulary, also received an OBE for his contributions to law enforcement.
Muhammad Arif Anis, the co-founder of One Million Meals, received an OBE in Surrey in recognition of his services to frontline workers during COVID-19.
England cricketer Sam Curran has been awarded the OBE for his contributions to the game.
For his contributions to fashion and photography, Nicholas Knight OBE has received a CBE.
