On the Isle of Man, nurses have decided to support going on strike in a pay dispute.

The 550 union members who work for Manx Care, according to the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), participated in the vote to the extent of about 46%.

According to the survey, 80% of respondents favored labor unrest.

For a response, Manx Care and the Department of Health and Social Care have been contacted.

Estephanie Dunn, regional director for the RCN, said the outcome conveyed a "strong message" about the direction nurses wanted to take their campaign for "fair pay" in.

In order to resolve the pay dispute, she stated that "our nurses on the Isle of Man must be fairly compensated for the highly skilled care they provide.".

After Manx Care's offer of a £300 one-time payment and a 2 percent pay increase on top of a 4 percent pay increase that was implemented in October 2022 was rejected in March, a vote was held.

In a separate vote, a "last-minute" proposal to raise the one-time payment to £1,000 for 2022–2023 was rejected by 73 percent of members, according to the union.

According to Ms. Dunn, the government must "support Manx Care in developing a stronger and more reliable workforce for the future.".

She claimed that it wasn't feasible to simply close the gap by paying exorbitant agency bills.

The Isle of Man RCN boards will now meet again to discuss the election results, but no dates for any potential strikes have yet been set.
