The family of a four-year-old boy whose name was given to a charity to assist others in dealing with cancer diagnoses has been informed that the boy's cancer treatment is not effective.
Doctors have advised his parents to begin planning for end-of-life care for their son Morgan Ridler, a two-year-old from Swansea who was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer in 2021.
Morgan recovered following eight cycles of chemotherapy. But the disease came back.
The tumors in their young son's body had significantly increased, mum Natalie and dad Matt were informed.
Matt made the following statement in a statement shared on social media: "This is something I never wanted to write or would wish upon any other soul.
In essence, they'll inform us that Morgan has not responded to any treatments and that he will soon be placed in end-of-life care.
"My little blue-eyed warrior has fought so, so hard and I feel like my heart has been ripped out, but I want him to have happy memories and not wake up each day in pain and have no quality of life," said Matt.
In 2021, when Morgan was just two years old, he received a rare cancer diagnosis.
Doctors have advised Morgan to put his quality of life first rather than another round of chemotherapy, which he had scheduled.
Neither Morgan nor her father currently know the prognosis or how long it will last, and they are debating whether they actually want to know.
He claimed he had no idea how to inform Morgan's younger sister of the situation.
As long as Morgan's health, time, and resources permit, he added, "We want to give Morgan and Rhiannon happy memories, as well as us, and want to take trips away, days out.".
In order for staff members to comfort Morgan while he was receiving medical treatment in Birmingham, a nurse wrote soothing words in Welsh. These words later went viral on TikTok.
