According to police, a US woman shot an Uber driver because she believed he was trying to kidnap her. She has since been charged with murder.
Phoebe Copas thought she was being taken into Mexico, according to police in El Paso, Texas, a border city.
The driver, Daniel Piedra Garcia, was shot after that, according to a statement from the police.
After being kept alive for several days, the 52-year-old passed away in a hospital.
According to police records, Copas noticed traffic signs that read Juarez, Mexico while she was in the car.
The two cities are located next to one another on either side of the US-Mexico border.
According to additional police documentation, Copas shot the driver in the head after believing she was being kidnapped. Before coming to a stop, the car then struck some barriers.
Copas, a Kentucky native who was in the city to see her boyfriend, allegedly called 911, snapped a picture of the driver, and texted it to him.
In a statement, El Paso police said that neither the kidnapping nor Piedra straying from Copas' intended course were supported by the investigation.
