Following the creation of woodland areas and wildflower meadows, a country park will transform into a "wildlife haven.".
Wakefield's Pugneys Country Park, which has been awarded the Green Flag since 2020, already has a nature reserve on one of its lakes.
Wakefield Council promised to create areas where people could be "surrounded by nature.".
A spokesperson claimed that the plan would improve the park and make it "even more enjoyable to visit".
"We've looked at how most people use Pugneys and it's clear they come to play, walk, and enjoy nature," said Councillor Jack Hemingway, cabinet member for environment and climate change for Wakefield Council.
"With our new strategy, we can improve what is already in place. ".
The changes to the park, he claimed, would provide "amazing opportunities to walk or cycle, have fun, and get outside in the fresh air.".
In order to improve people's mental wellbeing, he continued, "we can create spaces where visitors are surrounded by nature by planting trees and developing wildlife areas.
The council announced that the visitor center at Pugney would close its front desk as of July 1 but would keep the restrooms and cafe open.
