After one of their main broadband service providers filed for bankruptcy, some rural communities claim they are "in limbo.".
In order to reach properties in mid- and west- Wales, Broadway Partners had hoped to roll out its own full fiber broadband (FTTP).
The "incredibly frustrating" situation is the subject of urgent clarification requests from some Carmarthenshire residents.
The UK government declared that it was still on track to provide gigabit-capable broadband to 85% of homes by 2025.
Before it entered into administration, Broadway Partners had already finished a few projects in Pembrokeshire.
By 2025, it hoped to connect 250,000 properties in Scotland and Wales that larger providers had been unable to reach.
Teneo Financial Advisory Limited, the Broadway Partners' manager, expressed hope that rural areas and Wales would continue to gain from ultra-fast broadband connectivity.
Using the UK government's gigabit voucher program to defray connection costs, the communities of Dyffryn Cennen and Llanfihangel Aberbythych selected it as their preferred internet service provider in 2021.
"We selected them because they were focusing on rural communities and they wanted to be one of the lowest charging providers," stated Simon Williams.
The volunteer project coordinator for the Dyffryn Cennen council area continued, "Right now, confidence is a little low. I believe the current state of the neighborhood is somewhat dejected and uninspired.
"The populace feels forgotten; we are in desperate need of it. ".
The announcement that Broadway Partners was in administration and looking for a buyer halted the connecting of properties in the area a few weeks ago.
A new fiber cabinet for connections was installed opposite the former Tregib school in Ffairfach just ten days before the company went out of business, but it has not yet been wired.
Cefin Campbell, a Senedd member representing Mid and West Wales, expressed concern that additional delays would result from having to go through the same process again if a company were to take over.
Before we receive the support we deserve in rural communities, it could take months or even years. People's frustration and rage are palpable to me. ".
The business is still being conducted online, according to joint manager Benji Dymant, while a buyer is being sought.
According to a representative of the UK Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology, $5 billion has been invested in Project Gigabit, and its rollout is ongoing.
"The first contract procurement covering significant portions of Wales is still scheduled to begin later this summer.
