A speech produced by the contentious ChatGPT chatbot was delivered by a politician in the Welsh Parliament.

The website was used by Conservative Member of the Senedd (MS) Tom Giffard to draft a speech congratulating Wales on winning the World Cup of Darts.

When he said "long live darts," he acknowledged that it was an odd way to end the speech.

According to Mr. Giffard, the purpose of his speech was to demonstrate how far technology has come.

Almost the entire script was written by ChatGPT, though Mr. Giffard removed a false statement that Wales had never won the tournament.

It is the first known instance of the contentious tool being used in the debating chamber of the Welsh Parliament.

The OpenAI tool has been trained using data from the internet and can respond to user questions.

Songs, computer code, and marketing copy are just a few examples of what it has been used for.

Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton's team "showed incredible skill, nerve, and teamwork throughout the tournament," according to Mr. Giffard, who made the statement in the Senedd for 90 seconds.

They had demonstrated to the entire world that "Wales is a nation of champions capable of competing and winning at the highest level," he claimed, calling them "true ambassadors for Wales and for darts.".

"The World Cup of Darts is an excellent display of the variety, thrill, and camaraderie of this sport.

"It brings people together from various nations and cultures who are connected by their shared love of darts.

"I hope you'll enjoy this party and join me in honoring our Welsh heroes. Darts and Wales both live on. ".

He said, "You might think that's an odd ending to a speech," before telling the Senedd it was created with the program.

In response to a question from BBC Wales about why he did it, the MS for South Wales West said: "I chose to use ChatGPT for the first time in the Senedd chamber this afternoon to demonstrate just how cutting-edge the technology is becoming.

"The fact that an AI could compose a complete speech that could be delivered in a Parliament demonstrates the potential of the technology as well as potential pitfalls for future legislators.
